The Leprosy Mission Scotland Launch New Magazine (1 Dec 06)

Over the last couple of years the TLMS Newsletter has grown significantly. It started life as a double sided A4 photocopied sheet. It then grew to 4 pages, and in colour. But every time we came to write it, we had more stories to tell than room on the page. And while news about what we're doing in Scotland are useful and informative, it's stories of how TLM is working to transform the lives of those affected by leprosy around the world that people wanted more of.

DochasSo now TLMS is proud to reveal Dòchas, our new magazine. At half the size of previous newsletters it fits into the small size envelope for the Post Office's new size-based pricing system, but with 16 pages (or more if need be) we now have enough room to tell the stories we want to tell.

Issue 1 has the stories of Yohanna from Nigeria who has been suffering the effects of leprosy for over 50 years and Januka, an 18 year old from Nepal, who makes the bead chokers available from the TLMS shop. It also has an in-depth interview with Steve McMillan, a Scottish podiatrist who recently returned from spending 18 months with TLM in India and Nepal and Linda recounts hope and determination she saw among the residents of Kuta, a leprosy village in Nigeria.

Dòchas, the title of the new magazine, is the Gaelic word for Hope. It is our hope that this title will neatly sum up what TLMS is about as well as presenting a uniquely Scottish identity.
