World Leprosy Day

The biggest day in our calendar, World Leprosy Day is the last Sunday in January every year. For more than 50 years individuals, groups and churches have used World Leprosy Day to reaffirm their concern for those affected by leprosy and recommit themselves to doing something to make a difference.

The date was chosen to be the closest Sunday to the anniversary of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, a man who showed great concern for those affected by leprosy during his lifetime and on one occasion when invited to open a new leprosy care home said in his speech that he wished he was being asked to close it instead.

Every year TLM Scotland promote World Leprosy Day across the country, encouraging churches and other groups to mark it in some way. A pack of materials is available to help with this. Make sure you don't miss out - contact the office to pre-order for the next World Leprosy Day now.
