Scottish Parliament Motion Supports The Leprosy Mission Scotland
On Thursday June 3rd, following a successful reception at Holyrood the previous evening as part of the Justice Tour, a motion was lodged in the Scottish Parliament in support of our work.
Motions of this type do not commit the parliament or the government to take any action but they do allow members and the parliament as a whole to publicly commend the subject of the motion.
The Leprosy Mission Scotland is honoured to have been recognised in this way and hope that this motion together with other elements of the Justice Tour will lead to wider and deeper recognition and support for the work of The Leprosy Mission from across Scotland.
The full text of the motion is below and can be found on the Scottish Parliament website.
S3M-06503 Patricia Ferguson (Glasgow Maryhill) (Scottish Labour): The Leprosy Mission Scotland, Justice Tour
That the Parliament recognises the work carried out by the the Leprosy Mission since its establishment in 1874; notes that leprosy is a curable disease but that the stigma and social problems encountered by those affected by leprosy can result in their being ostracised by their communities, deprived of an education and, in some countries, deemed a non-person, and congratulates the Leprosy Mission Scotland on its successful justice tour currently being undertaken by the Leprosy Mission country leaders, Sunil Annand, India, Jean Pierre Brechet, Angola, Yousif Deng, Sudan and Yeuk Ming Poon, China and Laos, to highlight the plight of those affected by this disease.
