Empower Walk A Great Success

The Leprosy Mission Scotland’s inaugural Empower Walk was held on September 12th. Stanley Bonthron recalls a great day for all who took part.

“We were blessed with one of the sunniest days of the summer for our Empower Walk between North Queensferry and Aberdour.

“Together we trudged 9 miles enjoying the scenery of the Fife Coastal Path taking in the delights of the quaint seaside towns on the way, the stark beauty of St Bride’s Kirk and the stunning interior of St Fillan’s 10th Century church complete with its ‘leper squint’.

“We laughed and learned together renewing old friendships and making new ones as well as even finding the site of an ancient leprosarium on the way. Together we raised £2100 for the work of The Leprosy Mission worldwide. Make sure you join us next year – it is not too arduous and is a great day of fun and fellowship.”

The date for the next Empower Walk will be announced in the New Year. Why not join in yourself next year, swell our numbers and enable us to empower many more people affected by leprosy to live safe, fulfilling, dignified lives.

Our congratulations to Kathleen Nordin from Glasgow (4th from left) who was the top fundraiser on the walk and to Esther Macdonald, aged 5, the youngest empower walker.
