Real Lives

This year, TLM’s theme is our JUST CAUSE.  Below you can read about how we are acting out our commitment to bring healing and justice into the lives of real people, individuals affected by leprosy everyday.

Aarti

Aarti was eleven years old when she arrived at TLM's Naini hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India. She'd had leprosy for three years but it had not been diagnosed. As a result, she had clawed hands, disfigured toes and couldn't close her eyelids. She was very low.

Due to the severity of her condition, Aarti has been at Naini hospital for a number of years. However, through reconstructive surgery on her hands and feet, she is being transformed physically, emotionally and mentally too.

Aarti has a brighter future ahead of her - TLM will provide her family with financial assistance so that Aarti can go back to school. Then, she will be able to attend one of TLM's Vocational Training Centres where she will be able to learn a professional trade, giving her a firm foundation from which she can begin the rest of her life.

Support raised in Scotland will enable The Leprosy Mision to provide medical care to people like Aarti as well as providing opportunities for those affected by leprosy to build a better future for themselves and their families.
