About Leprosy
You probably don't want to read a long medical description of leprosy, so instead here are the answers to the most common questions we get asked about leprosy, some of which you're probably thinking right now.
- Does leprosy still exist?
- What causes leprosy?
- Is leprosy infectious?
- What happens if you catch it?
- Is leprosy curable?
Yes. Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT), a combination of 3 different drugs offers a complete cure from leprosy. However it can't undo any nerve damage already done so it is vital that those affected are diagnosed and treated as early as possible.
A course of MDT lasts for up to 6 or even 12 months though within a few days of starting treatment the patient is no longer infectious to anyone else.
MDT is free to anyone who needs it.
